1st Lt. Walter Fraser enlisted in May 1942.  

 

He was a part of the 390th Fighter Squadron, 366th Fighter Group.

The 366th Fighter Group's mission was the 8th Air Force Field order 296.  During this mission, 766 fighters from different groups who acted as escorts with P-47s and P-51s.  They flew missions in support of ground troops.

His aircraft was a P-47 Thunderbolt, 42-76426.

 

At the time of his death, Fraser held the title of 1st Lieutenant.  

First Lieutenants in the Air Force have responsibilities such as commanding flights and other supervisory tasks.  

 

1st Lt. Fraser was flying a mission when his plane crashed and exploded on the ground at 11 in the morning on June 12, 1944 in Maizieres township in France.   

He was interred at the US Military Cemetery Blosville, plot DD, row 4, grave 60.
